SOF Connect’s plans for the modernization of Sofia Airport were presented by the company’s Executive Director Jesus Caballero to Tourism Advisory Board of Sofia Municipality. Significant investments are planned for next year aimed to improve passengers experience, to launch new air routes to and from the capital and to attract new airlines.
“Sofia Airport charges are the lowest in the region, we will work together with the Municipality of Sofia and other partners to develop new routes to and from the capital. We can join forces to promote the destination, to participate together in tourism and aviation forums and to take advantage from the communication channels of the airlines we work with for advertisement purpose. Our joint efforts can also focus on visa requirements for entry into the country. All this is beneficial not only for business, tourists and airlines, but also for Bulgaria as a whole”, said Jesus Caballero in his presentation.
The management team of Sofia Airport will work actively with state and municipal authorities, the tourism industry and local businesses to attract more and more passenger traffic. After COVID peak the recovery of passenger numbers for Sofia Airport is going better than to other European airports, it became clear to the Advisory Board. Over the next 9 years, Terminal 3 of the airport will be built and put into operation, and by the middle of next year the commercial area of the airport will be fully reconstructed.
