37% less passengers at Sofia Airport compared to February 2019
114 international charter flights operated from the capital’s airport in the second month of the year.
In the first two months of the year, there has been significant interest in exotic charters, which are 40 during the period with nearly 5,000 passengers carried. Among the most interesting and preferred destinations are the Dominican Republic, Sri Lanka, Seychelles, Maldives, Mauritius, Tanzania, Kenya, etc.

In the second month of 2022, passengers passing through the capital’s airport were reduced by nearly 39% compared to 2019. A total of 315,121 passengers were served during the past period. International passenger traffic also decreased by 39%, while domestic passengers were 34% less.
In February, aircraft take-offs and landings at Sofia Airport reached 3,141, which is 26% down compared to 2019.
The volume of cargo and mail handled during the period decreased by nearly 22% and amounted to 1,504.4 tones.
The impact of the pandemic continues to affect air traffic, with a further negative impact expected from the situation in Ukraine, according to an airport analysis.
