From the establishment of Sofia Airport on 16 September 1937, through the 20th century that witnessed significant aviation developments, to the most recent history of the largest Bulgarian international airport.
Since the early 30s of 20th century, all flights were operated from the unpaved runway in the village of Vrazhdebna, later chosen for the construction of a civil airport by a Decree of Tzar Boris III, dated 16 September 1937. This is considered to be the birth date of Sofia Airport.
In April 2021, the international consortium SOF Connect took over the management of Sofia Airport after winning a concession tender.
SOF Connect AD strives to perform its obligations in such a way as to reduce the impact of aviation activities on the environment and the people working and living within Sofia Airport region.
SOF Connect AD is certified according to the requirements of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) receiving certificates for two standards Quality Management and Invironmental Management. SOF Connect AD is certified under the ACI EUROPE Airport Carbon Accreditation Programme at Level 2 Reduction.
