A 6-episode documentary series tells the story of Bulgarian civil aviation from the early 20th century to the present day. The past, present and future of Sofia Airport are presented in the film with author Zhivko Konstantinov and cameraman Blagoy Momchilov, which is broadcast on Euronews Bulgaria.
The series, marking the 85th anniversary of Sofia Airport, goes back to the beginning of the 20th century, when pioneering aviators laid the foundations of civil aviation in the country. In the film you will see details about who and when decided to build Sofia Airport, how it has evolved over time and what cultural and historical secrets the buildings of the capital’s airport hide. The series also tells the personal stories of the people working at the airport, about their passion for aviation, the emotions of the workplace and the responsibility of keeping the airport’s systems up and running 24/7 in the name of safety and security.
The film also outlines the future of the airport and the steps for its upcoming transformation. The airport team talks about how it will become a 5-star regional airport, the preservation of Terminal 1, the construction of the new Terminal 3 and more interesting details about the prospects and business intentions of SOF Connect, the company that will manage the airport for the next 30+ years.
Following the launch of the new logo and the ambitious transformation programme that aims to turn Sofia Airport into a 5-star regional airport, the documentary series continues the initiatives for the 85th anniversary of the capital’s airport. More video materials and features, a themed exhibition and events in the airport park are just some of the planned activities to mark the anniversary.
